Life is fast, life is hard, and fills up so quickly. One minute you are thinking about something and the other minute you are thinking about something completely different. The attention span is very short and disrupted at all times and therefore bringing about a change and discipline is highly recommended.
Many of us have struggled with changes in our lives and that is because we always want to take a big leap, but the way to go about it is to start at a micro level. One habit at a time and you can definitely keep the stress away.
We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.” – Aristotle
There are just some simple rules to go by to make a whole lot of difference in your life, which are:
- Exercise
We all hear and read people talking and harping about exercising. But exactly how does it help? Exercising has an extremely positive impact on your overall well being. For starters, it makes you feel better about yourself and more confident. Exercising daily brings about a positive change in your outlook thus, helping your social interactions and interpersonal skills since you are less distracted and more focused. Working out daily in an open environment also increases creativity, helping you to think better and taking time to do so which eventually improves your mental wellbeing too.
- Limit Task
Start your day with listing out the essential to-do’s and limiting the tasks. You can start by writing down 3 or 5 important things to do in your entire day. This way you don’t just increase productivity but also become more alert while performing the tasks. Planning is a very good habit to achieve discipline. Once you have identified what is really important, start saying “No” to selfless commitments and see how your idea of a perfect day comes true. Be mindful and acknowledge what is causing distraction and then eliminate it. By adapting this approach you will be more effective with your routine and get more done.
- Journal Daily
Journaling is a good habit to have. Penning down your everyday thoughts helps in positive thinking and combating stress. This is one simple habit that can bring about a huge difference in your life. Maintaining a journal, whether digital or old school notebook helps reflecting and making changes accordingly. Simply carve out your daily sessions in it to begin with. And don’t forget to be kind with yourself. Be proud of your little achievements that you note down.
- Slow Down
The mantra is to slow down, breathe, repeat! Take a moment to tap into the zen mode of life, i.e. the state of mind which is not cluttered. Rushing things will only result in anxiety and give you no time to appreciate the little joys that the universe has to offer. Practice to enjoy the process. Meditate and master the art of controlled breathing that improves the brain activity and creates a bridge between the rushing and pausing.
- Be Kind
Kindness is the biggest attribute one can show. It doesn’t cost you a thing to be kind to people around you. To reach the Zen state you have to have a kind, generous, and compassionate heart; towards others and yourself as well. The world will always be a better place if we learn to be thoughtful and sensitive. Negatives and positives will always be two roads and taking one of them will mostly decide the outcomes in your life.
“Love and compassion are necessities not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive” – His holiness the Dalai Lama
