Why is it important to set realistic goals?

Maybe, there’s nothing impossible, but there’s a specific time frame for everything. Inventing the telephone was not impossible, but until 1849, that was not the need. That doesn’t mean that in 1500, it was an impossibility, but maybe there was something else more important to focus on, making it an inapt time for a telephone invention. This is a short example of how timely and realistic goals makes for real and productive work.

We all have certain goals that we want to accomplish. Some are too unsure about themselves, some are too vigorous, and the one who perceives it rightly is the one who took it in the most balanced way.

Can you write a 100-page thesis in five hours? Maybe, you can, but what is going to be the significant impact after five hours of putting in the required work? Here, there are a few critical questions to ask:

Is it even worth the hype?

Do I have an option to take it easy?

Can I make it more progressive?

You might set a goal like that, but it wouldn’t contribute much if there were missing pointers in the answers to such self-assuring questions.

Here are a few things you need to know about setting realistic goals:

Aim higher

Observations say that only when you aim for 99% do you manage to get 95% results. That’s not because you cannot do it, but the common human nature is to procrastinate a little bit, and that is how we start being real to ourselves. If your goal is to never fail, that might not live well because the flow of life doesn’t lead to that direction.

Believe in micro-goals

The right way to reach the peak is to take one step at a time. Like if you have been bizarre with your sleeping routine and get up at 10 AM every day, you cannot start getting up at 6 AM right from the next day. Even if you can, that wouldn’t be a long-lasting achievement. So, how do you do it? Practise waking up at 9 AM for the coming week, then shift that to 8 AM the following week and go on till you finally get to 6 AM. These micro achievements bring notable change.

Here are things you need to do to achieve your goals:

  • Set the right frame of mind before you set the goal
  • Look at what can make you perform better
  • Write down your aims and ambitions on a piece of paper
  • Go ahead and get it for yourself

Goals in life exist to empower, strengthen, and give motive and purpose to life. Thus, understanding and mindfully setting it is a significant need.
